Traditional Palestinian Embroidery: Traditional “Fallahi” Cross-Stitch by Tania Tamari Nasir and Widad Kamel Kawar is a richly documented work that preserves the “fallahi” cross-stitch tradition of Palestinian village embroidery. Drawing on five years of field research and the Widad Kawar collection’s archive of costumes and accessories, the authors present hundreds of motifs and patterns as seen in dresses, headpieces, trousseaux, and domestic textiles from regions such as Ramallah, Jaffa, Hebron, Gaza, and Beir isab3a. The book provides detailed photographic plates of the designs, indicating not just shapes but their placement on garments and how color and form vary by village. It serves both as an art-historical documentation of a craftsmanship under threat, and a resource for revival and continuity of these local, handmade traditions in the face of displacement, modernization, and cultural change.
